The elder Morris was a master clubmaker and greenskeeper who helped to shape the game of golf as we know it today. He was also the father of Young Tom Morris, who became one of the greatest golfers of all time.

Old Tom Morris

Old Tom Morris was born in St. Andrews, Scotland, in 1821. He began working as a golf caddie at the age of 10, and by the time he was 14, he was considered one of the best golfers in the world. In 1842, he won the first Open Championship, which was held at Prestwick Golf Club.

Morris went on to win the Open Championship four more times, in 1848, 1851, 1854, and 1860. He also won the Scottish Open Championship nine times, between 1840 and 1867.

In addition to his playing career, Morris was also a master clubmaker. He made clubs for some of the greatest golfers of his day, including Young Tom Morris, Harry Vardon, and James Braid. Morris's clubs were known for their quality and craftsmanship, and they are still highly sought-after by collectors today.

Young Tom Morris

Young Tom Morris was born in St. Andrews, Scotland, in 1851. He began playing golf at the age of 4, and by the time he was 10, he was considered one of the best young golfers in the world. In 1868, he won the Open Championship at the age of 17, becoming the youngest player to ever win the tournament.

Morris went on to win the Open Championship four more times, in 1870, 1872, 1875, and 1876. He also won the Scottish Open Championship seven times, between 1869 and 1877.

Morris was considered one of the greatest golfers of all time. He had an amazing ability to hit the ball long and straight, and he was also a very good putter. Morris's career was tragically cut short when he died of pneumonia in 1875 at the age of 24.
